Assistant ProfessorSzymon Sobczak

Assistant Professor

Dr. Szymon Sobczak, born in 1992, specializes in pressure-induced chemistry. Throughout his career, he has gained experience and developed his skills by working, among others, during a research visit in the group of Prof. Tomislav Friščić and later in Dr. Nicola’s Casati group. His achievements in scientific activities have been recognized by the Minister of Science and Higher Education (2021). He is also a recipient of the Minister of Science and Higher Education Scholarship for outstanding young scientists (2021), the START scholarship, and the Poznań City Scholarship for young researchers.

Dr. Szymon Sobczak's research focuses on understanding the relationship between structure and physicochemical properties of materials, including molecular crystals, MOFs (Metal-Organic Frameworks), and perovskites. Engaged in promoting sustainable synthesis methods, Dr. Sobczak has contributed to the development of an environmentally friendly method of disulfide exchange, eliminating the need for conventional catalysts in favor of using pressure. His work on the high-entropy nucleation process contributes to broader research on the stabilization of kinetic polymorphs. Dr. Sobczak's current interests include the flexible response of coordination polymers, the impact of external stress on the efficiency of organic and hybrid photovoltaics, and reactions occurring under high-pressure conditions.
