Associate ProfessorJoanna Świetlik
She completed a master's degree in environmental chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Adam Mickiewicz. In 1998–2002, at the Department of Water Treatment Technology, she prepared a doctoral dissertation entitled “Concepts for the removal of excessive amounts of natural organic matter from tap water for the city of Poznań” (awarded in 2005 with the City of Poznań Award for developing guidelines for the modernization of water treatment technology at the Mosina Water Treatment Plant that supplies water to the city of Poznań). The research results were implemented at the WTP Mosina in 2015.
In 2017, she obtained a postdoctoral degree on the basis of a series of studies entitled “Causes of the decrease in biological stability of tap water during its disinfection and distribution”, which is a summary of many years of research and development cooperation with the largest drinking water producers in Poland and Europe. In the 2003-2019 she was employed at the Department of Water Treatment Technology as an assistant professor (2003-2017), assistant professor with habilitation (2017-2018) and university professor (2019). From 2020, she works as a university professor at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Analytics. In the years 2019-2020 and 2020-2024 - a member of the Program Council of the Food Analyst Studies. In 2017–2019, she was appointed to the Council of the Faculty of Chemistry. From 2019 - currently a member of the Scientific Council of the Chemical Sciences Discipline.
She is the author of 52 scientific articles in thematic journals and conference materials. She was the manager of two research grants and the contractor of another 7 grants. She is the co-author of a book and textbook on drinking water treatment. She cooperates with water companies, which has so far resulted in the implementation of 17 research projects commissioned by industry. As part of her scientific activity, she deals with the search for new and the development and optimization of known unit processes used in water treatment technology, including primarily processes using strong oxidants (ozone, chlorine dioxide, chlorine, advanced oxidation processes) and microorganisms (biofiltration). Much space in her research is also devoted to issues related to the distribution of drinking water, corrosion and degradation of transmission lines (metal and plastic alloys), as well as the analysis of biological and chemical phenomena occurring in distribution systems and their impact on the final quality of drinking water in consumers' taps. The research is carried out in close cooperation with the industry (large water supply companies), which makes it possible to conduct them both on a laboratory and semi-technical scale (pilot stations) and in real conditions. As part of didactic classes, she conducts lectures and exercises in the following subjects: Sample preparation, Chromatographic methods, Separation and combined techniques, Water treatment technology and Drinking water - facts, myths and controversies.
